Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness

The University of Central Florida (UCF) has an extensive online course initiative with more than 200 fully online and mixed-mode courses offered each semester. More than 70,000 students have participated in the UCF Virtual Campus since its inception in Fall, 1996. This session will discuss the impact this initiative has had on teaching and learning and the academy.

 

 


Dr. Charles Dziuban is Director of the Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where has been a faculty member for over three decades teaching research design and statistics.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.  Since 1996, he has directed the impact evaluation of UCF’s distributed learning initiative examining student and faculty outcomes as well as gauging the impact of online courses on the university.  Chuck has published in numerous journals and has received funding from several government and industrial agencies including the Ford Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control.  In 2000, Chuck was

named UCF’s first ever Pegasus Professor for the professor who exemplified extraordinary research, teaching, and service to the university.

 

Dr. Patsy Moskal is the faculty research associate for the Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where she has been a faculty member for the past 12 years. She has an Ed.D. with specializations in Instructional Technology and Research Methods and holds BS and MS degrees in computer science.  Since 1996, she has served as the liaison for faculty research of distributed learning at UCF.  Patsy specializes in statistics, graphics, and applied data analysis.  She has extensive experience in research methods including survey development, interviewing, and conducting focus groups, and frequently serves as a consultant to school districts, industry, and government organizations.

“Conversations on the Thoughtful Use of Technology” is a year-long IUPUI series bringing to campus speakers from around the country to share their experiences with the integration of online environments into the life of an institution.

 

 

 

 

Scheduled speakers for Spring 2003 will include Donald Norris on February 19, Charles Dziuban and Patsy Moskal on March 7, and Anthony Bates on April 11.
